Coming to Canada

Coming to Canada: For software professionals, there are primarily two routes of coming to work and live in Canada.

I. Temporary Work Permits:-

Similar to H1B visas, work authorizations under the Software Pilot Project allow Canadian employers to hire IT professionals on a temporary basis. The duration of such permits range from 6 months to 2 years, and restrictions similar to H1B apply.

Getting a work permit is dependent on securing a job offer and a Canadian employer willing to sponsor you.

II. Permanent Resident Status

Many a times, compared to the US green card; that is what the permanent resident status offers. Unlike in the US, you can qualify for your permanent residence status:-

a) before you arrive in Canada;
b) you don't need a job offer to apply for your PR status; and
c) the waiting period is around 1 year (depends on office).

We provide an online free assessment of your application. Click here to fill the form, if you have not already done so.

When on a permanent residence status in Canada:-
1) your spouse is eligible to work
2) your entire family is given the PR status
3) you and your family can avail of the Universal Health care system
provided by Canada.

Do you need a consultant to represent your PR application ?

The Canadian immigration application process is a long, costly and time
consuming process. Also it is crucial that you present your application with the right details and documentation. Any flaws could result in delays or rejection.

Rejection of your application could be as late as 1 year after the application is filed (if rejected at the time of interview).

Once a case is rejected, it is an uphill task to appeal and get the decision reversed. Recent reports have further suggested that the Immigration department would like to see the number of appeal cases reduced to a large extent.

Thus, to answer the above question, our advice - do it right the first time. Immigration is an important step, and in most cases, you don't have the luxury of getting it wrong.
